(More customer reviews)I saw a blurb in Popular Science magazine about the Bringrr and the timing couldn't have been better. Just a few weeks before reading the article, I had gone on a 3-day business trip in my company car, leaving my phone on my desk. I had driven almost 100 miles before I figured out I didn't have it with me. (I know, most people can't believe you could go that long without using a cell phone, but I often do). That's why it took me so long to realize I didn't have it with me. I had to be at my destination on time, so there was no way I could turn around and go back for it.
When I saw the PopSci article, I ordered one immediately. Unfortunately, the unit with the USB charging port was on back order. I got an email from James Logan at the company, telling me that there was a problem and the approximate time they would be shipping mine to me (about 6 weeks). When I got the unit and tried to pair it to my phone, I found the instruction manual to be a little bit hard to understand. Also, even though the Bringrr and its packaging looked very professional, I thought the instruction manual looked like it was an afterthought. In the end, I got it to work with little trouble. It probably only took me 15 minutes.
I had a Windows Mobile HTC Touch Diamond phone, at that time. It paired-up without a problem. However, while driving sometimes, and it didn't matter if I was on the phone or not, I would get the alarm signal that the Bringrr couldn't find my phone. A few seconds later, they would pair-up once more, and I didn't have to do anything to make that happen. This happened almost daily and was a minor annoyance for me but other people might have been bothered quite a bit by it. In early December, James Logan sent me an email, thanking me for being one of the first people to buy a Bringrr unit, and asking me if I would give him some feedback. I answered his questions and then mentioned the problem I was having with the phone and Bringrr becoming "unpaired". I offered that it might be my phone and not the Bringrr, but the only way to test that hypothesis was to try a different Bringrr unit. James agreed and immediately shipped me a brand new, still-in-the-box, unit. Before I could pair the new device, my company gave me a different phone (a Blackberry Bold)to use. To test if it was the phone instead of the Bringrr, I left the new unit in its box and paired the old unit with my new phone. I tested the new phone/old Bringrr unit locally and during a 700 mile vacation trip over Christmas. It worked fine, proving it was my HTC phone, not the Bringrr. I told Jim Logan about this and he told me just to keep the new Bringrr and give it to someone else who might have problems remembering his/her phone.
To sum it all up:
- I like the unit and would recommend it without hesitation
- I was very pleasantly surprised by the level of customer service exhibited by James Logan, on behalf of his young company
- I would recommend holding onto the original packaging and receipt, in case your phone won't connect well with the Bringrr
- I would suggest that the Bringrr people do a professional rewrite of their instruction sheet, to make it look nicer and to "dumb it down" for people like me (i.e. old)
- I think the Bringrr is a great value for the money
