Tivoli Audio iSongBook Portable Music System for iPod (White/Silver) Review

Tivoli Audio iSongBook Portable Music System for iPod (White/Silver)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Continues the superb Tivoli tradition for Ipod. Very ingenious design, wonderful audio, charges both Ipod and a set of NIMH batteries with wall wart, then you're untethered for hours of entertainment...Nice clock radio functions and superb AM FM radio as well as aux in for other devices. It is such a good match for Ipod, I have discovered sounds in my Ipod tunes I didn't know were there...
One BIG disadvantage...this doesn't have a kickstand or good support, so it is prone to tip over and spill out the Ipod from the dock. Make sure you have a safe surface to but this baby on...I am waiting for the iSoundbook case to come out for further protection...If it's like the case for the IPal it will be yet another bit of ingenious design...
This is also very expensive. Significant more than the other Tivoli Ipod products, but the stereo design and excellent charging options make it worth it...
It could be somewhat improved by offering a remote that could change between modes...as it is you have to turn the switch to AM, FM or Ipod/Auxillary before the remote will work. The remote has a nice feature (much better than Apple's IMHO) which allows you to move to the next playlist on your Ipod...
All in all, this is a great, innovative idea. To me it's much nicer than the Bose offering because it's portable with battery power, has a superb AM FM radio, and offers better stereo separation...And sound wise, I think it's a touch better in clarity...though the Bose seems to have a bit more bass...

Nice build and display but descriptions on Amazon, Target and myriad other sites are inaccurate. Contrary to those descriptions, this model (df1130a1) does NOT allow for shuffling or split screen display of photos. I just spoke with HP Customer Service to confirm this, and apparently the "prior" model (df1200) offered these options. With the 1130a all you can do is play a slideshow in the order the photos are saved. My parents (for whom this is a gift) prefer a random display order, so this missing (and basic) feature is disappointing.

Cobra CPI 2575 2500 Watt 12 Volt DC to 120 Volt AC Power Inverter Review

Cobra CPI 2575 2500 Watt 12 Volt DC to 120 Volt AC Power Inverter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Beware of all those talking about failures of the inverter - one guy says that he returned his, because two 70Ah batteries couldn't power it to run a 1/2 horsepower motor.
Well...guys, there are a few things you need to know about inverters before buying a big one...which does NOT directly substitute for a generator! The little ones are WAY DIFFERENT than the big ones.
First off, at 2500-watts, you are pulling 200+ amps across the wire...so, unless you are hard-wired with some 4/0 solid-strand wire, you really need to go with DOUBLE 4-AWG strand wires...basically, buy TWO sets of 4-AWG jumper cables, and after you cut the ends off both, then run double-strand (both red AND black) of a complete set to EACH POST of the inverter...yes guys, that's a LOT of wire...and due to heat, I wouldn't run that more than 5-6 feet!
Now...batteries...let's laugh at the guy trying to get 1600 watts of batteries to run a 2500 watt inverter...and consider what you REALLY NEED...for deep cycle batteries rated on the 20-Ah system, and rated at, say 500-Amps, then buy 6 of these and wire them in PARALLEL circuit to power the inverter. Yep...$600 in deep cycle batteries! Now, you have enough batteries to power the inverter for 2-6 hours, depending on loading, before you will need to recharge your 6-battery bank. Plan on a charger that can throw 50-100 amps into the charge...so your little $50 Schumacher charger is NOT going to charge this battery bank overnight! Try more like a $300 charger to charge them in 12-hours...or, if you want solar, good...you need to throw about 70-amps of charge into these for 12-hours solid...so that is $300-$500 in solar panels. Also note...batteries get weak after enough cycles...so pay attention to your charge circuit...and a charging circuit MINDER isn't a bad idea, either!
How do I know this? Because these are all the big troubles encountered when I was a Director of Engineering for an RV Manufacturer...and when you get over 1500-Watts of inverter involved...you start playing by a whole new set of rules! It is MUCH CHEAPER to go with a 3000-watt generator, than to even CONSIDER getting a 2500-watt inverter.
This is a good inverter...but buying one this big and not knowing how to care for and maintain it, is like buying a big chemistry set and giving it without supervision to your mischievous 12-year old...it is NOT a good idea.

Tripp Lite HT10DBS 10-Outlet Home Theater Surge Protector (3570 Joules, Tel/Ethernet/Coax)
Average Reviews:

This surge protector was recommended by several audio and home theatre internet sites. It's solid in construction and is aesthetically pleasing. There are three indicator lights that serve as a heads up as to wether the surge protector is working properly or not. The 10 outlets are labeled (DVD, Amp, receiver,CBL/SAT, etc.). It also comes with additional labels if you have two of any electronic device or do not like the label arrangment on the surge protector. The outlets are spaced out so its easy to fit as many as 6 transformers onto the surge protector. On the side of the surge protector are inputs for a phoneline and an internet line. The device also allows protection for up to three coaxial cables. The output Watt capacity is 1440 watts. This surge protector has allowed me to safely and adequately protect everything in my room. It is great if you want to organize all the wires behind a desk or TV/audio stand. I am thoroughly impressed with the device and would recommend it to anyone.

Knockoff
Worked "ok" after about a weeks worth of setup. Picture quality marginal at best. After searching forever for somewhere to get support, found out this is a knockoff of another product. Trying to update the software bricked the camera, but I was warned that this may happen. I was happy to toss it in the trash, but sad I spent the money on it.

SVAT GX5203 Wireless Portable Video Security System – 2.5-Inch LCD and Outdoor Night Vision Surveillance Camera
Average Reviews:

I had a lot of interference problems using the SVAT GX5203, I noticed that as soon as I disconnected my cordless phone (Panasonic 2.4GHz) the problem was solved, moving the receiver and/or the phone to another location did not work, so I had to replace my phone with a newer DECT 6.0 and everything worked just well. The reception range is pretty good and the image quality is a bit under my expectations, sound is clear and the camera seems to be tough enough for outdoor usage. The fact that the batteries need to be removed to plug the AC/DC adapter is beyond my understanding.

Genuine Foscam Fi8908w Wireless Ip Camera Network with Pan & Tilt, night Vision,2 Way Audio, black Review

Genuine Foscam Fi8908w Wireless Ip Camera Network with Pan and Tilt, night Vision,2 Way Audio, black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Over the past year I have done a lot of work with network IP cameras including high-end commercial models from Axis Communications; mid-range units from Panasonic and budget cameras from Foscam. I have worked extensively with three Foscam camera models - FI8918W Pan/Tilt, FI8909W-NA fixed camera and the FI8904W fixed outdoor model. All of these cameras were purchased directly from China rather than from Amazon, because Amazon did not offer them when I made my purchases, however, Amazon's price is very good and I would purchase any future units from them.
The Foscam cameras are made by Foscam Intelligent Technologies Co., Ltd. in Shenzhen, China. Their website is often down, apparently due to China's pervasive interference with its Internet service. Despite this, Foscam's support via email is quite responsive considering the time difference.
These cameras have proven reliable after months of service both indoors and outdoors. All of the camera models have been installed outdoors in semi-protected locations, such as under a building eve and the model FI8904W has weathered a less protected location where only the rear of the camera was shielded from rain. Note: only the front of the FI8904W is water resistant, despite what the brochure says.
These cameras are consumer grade with a small sensor and a plastic lens. Display resolution is modest at 640 x 480 Pixels (300k Pixels). They are adequate for general observation and surveillance and are especially good for monitoring a home interior. You can test drive a Foscam FI8918W camera installed in Russia at this link: ['] Login using Server Push Mode as user demo and a password of demo. You can fully control the pan/tilt. Personally, I recommend that you never use the ActiveX mode - it is, in my opinion, buggy.
All of the Foscam cameras come with infrared LEDs built-in the camera face. This enables night vision in black & white. The FI8904W model is particularly good at seeing in the dark, given its large array of infrared LEDs. The manufacturer claims 20 meters of visibility. I can say that a pitch black 20x20 foot room will appear as if the room lights are on in the FI8904W 's video.
The builtin software enables multiple cameras to be linked through its built-in web page, creating a single monitoring center for multiple cameras. A demonstration of this feature can be seen on YouTube at:[']
One issue is that to save cost, Foscam cameras lack the switchable infrared filter found in more expensive IP network cameras. As a result, the colors of images and videos will not be true, primarily concerning the color green. Plant foliage will appear gray. Given the camera's security goal, this isn't a big issue to me.
All Foscam cameras have built-in software supporting a motion detector feature that can be scheduled by day of week and time of day, in fifteen minute increments. When active, detected motion will cause six time stamped (in the filename) still photographs of what caused the motion to be emailed to the email address of your choice. It supports access to smtp mail servers, such as Yahoo but not SSL servers, such as Gmail.
Lastly, configuring any network IP camera, not just Foscam, is not plug and play and Foscam's little instruction booklet is minimal. Help exists on Internet forums like [']

Escort Passport 8500 X50 Radar and Laser Detector (Red Display) Review

Escort Passport 8500 X50 Radar and Laser Detector (Red Display)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Before I actually begin, one thing should be perfectly clear - you're looking at this radar because you understand accuracy is not only important, it is critical when looking for a radar detector. If you look at my other reviews, you'll notice that I've given 5 stars to those products as well - you'll also notice I haven't done many reviews in the past, that's because I only really write reviews for items that I think deserve it. As for the rest, well, I don't keep the product if it doesn't meet the 5 star requirement! So trust me when I say this radar is the best you can buy under $500.
Accuracy:
I've always been a little skeptical about using radar detectors, everyone knows they won't prevent tickets every single time. But, if it can save you a couple tickets it's already paid for itself. I live in Chicago, and frequently drive to neighboring states for work and to visit family. Because of this, I knew that I would have to buy a solid detector that was effective if I was constantly on the road. I made the right choice. Driving on the expressways in the midwest is simple for me now knowing I am using the 8500 x50. It has alerted me much in advance if a cop was gunning and I've always had time to slow down and pass the cop at the posted speed limit. The three main alerts, K, KA, and X are pretty much always on target - and with minimal false readings, it stays quiet when it needs to.
Ease of Use:
One of the best aspects of this radar is how easy it is to use. Right out of the package, it's ready to go. However, if you're a little more technical and always need things a certain way, you can configure it with a number of different settings to fit your style. One of the downfalls is that I wish the x50 would have a better volume control - I feel that it doesn't go loud enough, especially when I'm listening to music in my car. To make up for it, I've moved the x50 from the center of the winshield to more to the left, so it is in my field of vision while I drive to allow me to see the display at all times out of the corner of my eye. In addition, the Escort SmartCord works well with it's auto mute button on the adaptor itself.
Value:
Hands down, the x50 takes the gold as the number one radar on the market. You're probably thinking to yourself, $340 for a radar detector is a lot of money. And you know.. you're absolutely right. But.. if you save yourself two speeding tickets, the x50 has paid for itself (not to mention the pain of having to go to court and traffic school). If this radar was over $400, it would still be worth it considering what you may be saving yourself from. I got the x50 with the blue display because it was from the Sharper Image, and that's all they had. If you want to save yourself $40 by going with the red display, I say do it and save some cash.
The Bottom Line:
If you want to make a solid investment, get the 8500 x50 and don't waste your money with a $100 or $200 radar that isn't accurate - doing that will cost you the price of your ticket plus a radar detector that would be better off being used for a paper weight. Although Bel and the Valentine One are solid detectors, they don't match up to the stats that the x50 has - see it for yourself at www.radartest.com.

My PL-660 was purchased here and delivered by Kaito.
Bottom line, it's a great little radio that outshines my ICF-SW7600GR in every way -- sensitive, great sound on AM, FM and SW.
The only negative is the cheezy stand. That could have been built stronger.
It will see a lot of use!

Panasonic Expandable Digital Cordless Dect 6.0 Phone System (KXTG8232B) Review

Panasonic Expandable Digital Cordless Dect 6.0 Phone System (KXTG8232B)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Overall, this phone set is terrific. It features a bright color screen and a sleek glossy black look. (Once you go with a color screen, it's hard to go back) The base station is surprisingly compact. Call clarity is excellent. Speakerphone is plenty loud. You can even check your answering machine through the handset! Panasonic's usual mess of small buttons has been streamlined somewhat to reduce confusion.
A slight gripe is that while Panasonic gives you a color screen, it doesn't really use it to its full potential. You have a choice of *three*, count 'em, three wallpapers. And that's it! All but one are pretty tacky.
A bigger gripe revolves around the answering machine. First of all, Panasonic removed the talking Caller ID that was standard on almost all their previous models. Secondly, there is no on-phone notification that someone left a message on your machine. The *only* indication is a hard-to-see blinking red light on the base station. There is no audio notification that there are new message either (many other phones beep when there's a new message). So unless you are frequently near the base station (which I'm not), you may have messages and not know it.
So in a nutshell:
PROS
Great sound
No WiFi/Bluetooth Interference with DECT6
Compact, sleek styling
Backlit keypad
Good speakerphone
Answering machine operation from handset.
CONS
No audible or visual new message alert on handset
Limited customizability (few wallpapers/ringtones)

** UPDATE ** 09/30
Going on 9 months with the phone. Still enjoying it and happy with my decision. There is word of the Lotus 2 (2nd generation) phone coming out sometime in 2010. It's too early to tell how much will have changed from the Lotus 1, but so far word has it that the micro SDHC memory limit has been expanded to 32Gb and the outer screen will be touch sensitive. The touch screen functionality suggests that the inner screen will have this too, but that was not mentioned. In any case, expect the phone to debut sometime in the summer. If you really need a phone right now, you can't go wrong with the Lotus given the extremely attractive discounts going on.

REVIEW
======
The LG Lotus was introduced in the fall of 2008, to reasonable fanfare and press. But do you hear anything about the Lotus now? Not much, which I find strange because the LG Lotus is such an amazing phone. Maybe the surging popularity of touch screen phones overshadows it?
I bucked the touch screen trend and instead went with an LG Lotus. I had to switch from Verizon to Sprint in order to get it, because US based cellular carriers still impose a carrier lock on most phones and have significant pricing discounts when buying a phone with a plan. At first, I was worried about leaving "American's most reliable network" and sacrificing the "in network" minutes with a few of the people I know... but then I came to realize that Sprint has an excellent network as well. So far in my first few weeks of being on the Sprint network, I've noticed no performance loss.
But back to the phone. This is what attracted me to the Lotus:
1) EXCELLENT QWERTY KEYPAD. I don't like the lack of feedback from a touch screen phone; but you've no choice with it, because that's the main interface you're given (unless you do everything by voice command). On the other hand, the tactile sensation of the Lotus keypad is excellent. I have XL sized hands and have no trouble rapidly "double thumb" typing on the Lotus. I tried the Blackberry Curve and Treo--the Lotus keypad works with fewer typos.
2) SMALL FORM FACTOR. The iPhone, Storm, and Omnia touch screen style phones are all quite large and a bit weighty. They don't fit comfortably in your pocket, especially if you've got it in a case to avoid screen scratches. But the Lotus disappears in your pocket. Even in a shirt pocket, it is unobtrusive. When folded, the inner screen and keyboard are fully protected. Yet, when you open it up, the size is doubled and it is easy to hold. THIS is what cellular communications should be all about. I've tried out the Motorola RAZR and I'd say the Lotus is about the same thickness but easier to hold. Overall, the design of the Lotus is very unusual. When opened, it almost looks like a miniature laptop! :-)
3) SEMI-SMART PHONE. What does it take for a cellular phone to be called a Smart Phone? "There is no agreement in the industry about what a smartphone actually is and definitions have changed over time." The Lotus supports Java applications, can browse the web, download files, exchange e-mail (when connected, e-mail is pushed to the phone), and work as a GPS device. This certainly sounds smart to me. Aside from the default browser, you can download others (like the Opera Mini) and even use a GMail application instead of going through the HTML interface. I'm sure as time goes on, the list of compatible Java apps for the Lotus will increase.
4) PLAN VERSATILITY. With smart phones like the iPhone, Storm, and Omnia, you MUST have a data plan. With the Lotus, you can choose whether or not you want a data plan. Plus, on Sprint, you can do this change mid-stream on your contract without incurring costs or contract change penalties (the countdown to expiration remains unchanged). I find this an attractive advantage over the competition.
5) SCREEN RESOLUTION. The inner screen of the Lotus is 2.5" diagonal. It is a beautiful wide screen that looks like one you'd see on a quality digital camera. The resolution is SUPERB. Pictures appear razor sharp and in full accurate color. Even the external screen looks great, and you can choose not only a few different clock layouts but a different wallpaper from the internal screen.
6) MENU SYSTEM. The default "Carousel" style menu system is actually very nice. It is customizable and provides very easy access to popular functions of the phone. It is great for novices but a little annoying for the technically adept. However, you can dispense with it and go with the LG menu system. With the help of a Sprint store rep, you can get the default LG menu activated (or if you know your MSL number, you can do it yourself). I prefer the LG menu as it removes the Carousel clutter (if the menu would auto-hide, I'd like it more) so you can see your wallpaper image in all its glory. Plus, you go from 5 to 12 favorites (shortcuts), something I really appreciate. Not only that, but the left menu button becomes a quick access link to the Calendar/Scheduler, instead of it being hidden behind a carousel tile you have to hunt for. Supposedly, going with the LG menu saves you some battery life, too.
7) NO THEFT MAGNET. Large and glamorous PDA phones are a theft magnet, especially the coveted iPhone. Personally, I find the idea of constantly whipping out an expensive device increases the chance for damage (who here hasn't dropped a phone at least once on a hard surface?) and involuntary loss due to theft. The Lotus is nicely inconspicuous (especially the black version).
8) MUSIC PLAYBACK QUALITY. The built in music player is a little cumbersome at first, in that upon initial insertion of the SD card, it scans all of your music and creates an internal index. But once that index is created, it is quick and easy to play music selections by "All Songs", "Artists", "Genres", and "Albums". Plus you can create your own playlists, as well as use random or sequential play by Genre, Artist, and All Songs. A very nice attribute for the way the SD card is used is that you can subdivide your music by whatever folders you want--the Lotus scans the card and finds them, rather than requiring all songs to be in one folder. Sound quality is impressive, although for this small size the bass is lacking. But mids and highs are clear and accurate. I couldn't believe what I was able to hear... better than the iPod earbuds, that's for certain. Plus, it has a 2.5mm jack so you can plug in earbuds if you wish to listen privately. Bluetooth headsets are also supported.
9) EXCELLENT GPS SOFTWARE. I was about to buy a Garmin Nuvi 255w. But now, I don't have to. The Sprint GPS Navigator is excellent! It really works. Plus, it's full featured. You get horizon view and bird's eye view, turn-by-turn voice navigation with street names, easily stored favorites, and interfacing with Google maps. It also audibly informs you about traffic conditions. What more could you want?
10) DECENT CAMERA. A 2.0 megapixel camera sounds passe, when 3.2 and 5.0 cellphone cameras are available. Well, I don't know what firmware LG put in this phone, but this is the best 2.0 megapixel camera I've ever seen. I'd swear it was 3.0 megapixel. Photos are of very high quality. It works OK in low light if the subject remains still. There is NO flash, unfortunately. I wouldn't use this over a full fledged digital camera, but it makes for an excellent backup.
11) OBVIOUS CHARGING INDICATOR. On many phones, you need to look at the LCD screen to see a message that charging is complete or that the battery indicator is now on full. With the Lotus, the external music controls are lit up red when charging is taking place, but change to white once charging is finished--quite obvious to notice from a distance, which is very convenient.
12) MINI USB CONNECTOR. The mini USB connector works very well with this phone, sliding into place securely. And now there are vendors supplying car chargers with retractable cords that work with the Lotus. It's an excellent solution for convenient charging on the go with no cords to hassle with.
OTHERS - the phone has 5 alarm settings, one "quick alarm" and 4 main ones that you can set for whatever period you need (once, daily, weekly, monthly) and with whatever sound you want (default or downloaded). There is even a feature that allows you to record a phone call--not bad.So, those are the things I really like about the Lotus. But alas, no phone is perfect. Here is what I see needing improvement:
1) VOICE QUALITY. During calls, voices are projected through an internal speaker on the lid. Depending on the party reached, some calls sound a little flat and tinny on high volume. This is in contrast to the excellent voice quality I had on a Motorola E815. Now, it's not so bad that it is a deal breaker, but I wish it was a little better. If you're in a noisy room and crank up the volume, you'll be a bit disappointed. I tend to keep the volume set to about the mid-point. Using an ear set works well, as an alternative. In fact, at home I plug in a wired ear set and it works beautifully. I tuck the phone in my pocket and walk around hands free. The speakerphone quality is excellent, though.
2) BATTERY LIFE. If you leave your phone connected to the Internet most of the time, you'll probably need to recharge your phone daily. But if you shut off the Internet connection when not in use, battery life should be about average for standby and talk time. The Lotus is rated at 5.5 hours, but I'd say it's just about 3 hours. Most phone manufacturers exaggerate their talk time anyway. My last phone was...Read more›

Phone Features The innovative LG Lotus flip phone is the recipient of the Red Dot Design Award--one of the largest and most renowned design competitions in the world--for its original form factor. This square flip phone measures just 3.3 x 2.4 x 0.7 inches and weighs 3.7 ounces, making it perfectly pocketable. It has an external 1.3-inch LCD screen (160 x 128 pixels, 65K colors), which displays incoming calls and provides current time/date, signal strength, and battery life. You can control music playback when the phone is closed with dedicated buttons right below the screen.
Flipping the cover open reveals a small, full QWERTY keyboard that's ideal for quick text messaging, e-mail or instant messaging. The interior also includes a five-way navigator, send/end keys, and soft navigation keys. This phone features Sprint's new One Click navigation interface, which places eight shortcut tiles along the bottom of the home screen. Instead of navigating through endless phone menus, you can put the things you use the most--features like call logs, texting, Web access and GPS navigation--right up front with instant information related to each feature. For example, when you scroll to text messaging, you'll see the number of new messages received and a single click takes take you to the newest messages. Here's how it works:
Add your favorite items to the carousel, which is a row of tiles along the bottom of your phone's home screen.
The carousel can hold up to 15 tiles, which you can add, remove and rearrange to suit your needs.
Highlight a tile to reveal its menu on your home screen.
Add up to 8 "bubbles"--at-a-glance items that display on your home screen, like the weather or your daily horoscope.
Browse and download new tiles from your phone's "Personalize Home Screen" tile. New tiles are available every two weeks.
Press your navigation left or right key to select a tile; up or down to select a bubble or menu item.
The "Home" tile always stays put, so you can easily get back to your default display.
The phone includes an 80 MB internal memory, which can be expanded via optional microSD memory cards up to 16 GB in size. The phonebook can store up to 600 contact entries, each with up to seven numbers, three e-mail addresses, a web URL, IM screen name, and a picture ID. Other features include a one-touch speakerphone, speed dial (98 entries plus one voice-mail default), and voice-activated dialing.
This phone provides the latest version of Bluetooth connectivity--version 2.1 + EDR (Enhanced Data Rate), which makes pairing with the included headset as well as other Bluetooth devices a snap. And with EDR, you'll get a faster connection than with the previous version 1.2, which makes transferring files and using the phone as a modem for your laptop hum along nicely. And with the embedded A2DP Bluetooth profile, you can stream your music to a pair of Bluetooth stereo headphones or other compatible devices. This phone also enables you to send contacts and calendar events, send pictures to a Bluetooth-enabled printer, and save up to 20 Bluetooth pairings
The 2-megapixel camera offers four resolution options for still images (1600 x 1200, 1280 x 960, 640 x 480, and 320 x 240 pixels), and it features up to a 15x digital zoom (depending on resolution setting; 1600 x 1200 does not support zoom), brightness and white balance controls, a self timer, and an in-phone image editor. You can print photos directly to compatible PictBridge printers via the included USB cable or via Bluetooth. You can also capture video clips in three resolutions (320x 240, 176 x 144, and 128 x 96 pixels), with video length of either up to 35 seconds (for sending via messaging or mail) or up to 1 hour (for saving to your memory card).
The digital music player supports MP3, AAC, AAC+, and MP4A files, and it allows you to play music in the background while you multitask in other applications on the phone. It also has an airplane mode that turns off cellular connectivity while allowing you to continue to play music. This phone is compatible with real-music ringtones, and you can also set voice memos as a ringtone. You can record voice memos up to 10 minutes in length. It comes with 33 unique ringtones and you can also set the phone to vibrate and silent modes.

Personalize your phone by downloading unique ringers and assigning them to numbers in your address book so you'll know who's calling by the sound of the ring or style of animation
Wireless Backup to manage contacts list in the event that the phone is lost, stolen or damaged
Download and play entertaining, interactive games that you'll want to play all the time
USB mass storage capabilities and charging via computer

Escort RedLine Ultimate Performance Dual-Antenna Radar Detector (Black) Review

Escort RedLine Ultimate Performance Dual-Antenna Radar Detector (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I did a lot of research on the internet and watched every detector video I could find on utube. I narrowed the choice down to the escort 9500ix and the redline. I was impressed with the gps capability of the 9500ix that can use gps location to eliminate false detections. However, I also wanted the extended detection range of the redline unit. I bought them both and tried them for 2 weeks. My driving consists of 100 miles a day, of which 6 of those miles are city miles. Within a couple of days, the 9500ix had most of the false detections screend and muted for the city driving, which amounted to apx 4 false detections. However, it could not match the detection range of the redline on the highway. The redline was picking up pop signals 8 miles out, and did just as well in detecting from the front or rear. One friday evening I was clocked 4 times by radar, and once by laser on a 75 miles trip. I got my first audible alert for laser before I could actually see the sideways parked car off the road a mile ahead with a gun aiming out the window. I immediately braked and had no problem. I was also picking up instant on / off being used on cars miles before I saw them. A trooper was coming up behind me with his radar on, and again it detected him well before we saw each other. I keep this unit mounted low to the dash to make sure I have the best chance of picking up laser which is a tight beam aimed at your front tag or headlight. I guess you really get what you pay for. I have owned 4 units over the years and this one is awesome. It also works fine with false detections in the city. I can switch it to auto/no x, and 99% of the false signals are filtered out. For the remaining 1%, I just press the mute button on the power cord that plugs in on my console. I would rather do a quick mute, and keep the unit on highway mode for max range. I also like the way you can run with all the warning lights out and use the warning light on the power cord next to the mute / volume adjust button on the plug in.

Easy to Use Enjoy control right at your fingertips using the included SmartPlug power cord. Patented Mute and AutoMute technology on the cord allows you to quickly silence alerts without reaching for the detector. Simple preference settings lets you customize up to 8 features.

Installation is also a breeze: use the quick release mount to attach it to your vehicle's windshield, and remove it in a snap. A durable zipper travel case is included to take the unit with you, or neatly conceal it in your vehicle.

Ultra-Bright Text Display Don't miss a visual alert with the Redline's 280-LED alphanumeric display. With five levels of brightness viewable from any angle, it's easy to track and display multiple radar signals, including signal strength. The new SpecDisplay provides actual numeric radar frequency for any radar signal, and you can also view Safety Warning System (SWS) messages about upcoming hazards, construction and more.

Skylink DM-100 Swing Door Opener with Electro-Magnetic Lock Review

Skylink DM-100 Swing Door Opener with Electro-Magnetic Lock
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I got the DM-100 for the front door of my condominium. They say only that the DM-150 is for exterior doors but a representative from the Skylink told me that the DM-100 and DM-150 are exactly the same, except one comes with the electromagnetic lock while the other comes with the electric strike. The DM-150 cost more and with a high probability that you have to hire a professional to install the electric strike that would increase the cost significantly. So I went with the DM-100 with the electromagnetic lock.
The installation was really difficult and took over four hours. Admittedly part of this had to do with my father, who is impatient and gets frustrated very easily, but there are also a few parts of the installation guide that could have been more clear. There is both a QuickStart installation guide and a full manual and there were some slight discrepancies between the two which added to the confusion. But for the most part I thought the instructions were pretty clear. Your mileage may vary.
Once it was finally done it does work quite well. I also got the wireless keypad for outside my door and the wireless button for inside and they were both very easy to set up. The electromagnetic lock holds the door shut quite well although I wouldn't depend on it to keep your home secure. Apparently you can buy third-party electromagnetic locks and add them to the set up for more security but the one that comes with the DM-100 is enough for me. Although the latch is now disabled on my front door the deadbolt still remains so my front door is still quite secure when it needs to be. Unlocking the door wasn't my problem. Opening and closing it was. But now thanks to the DM-100 that issue is solved, and at a pretty reasonable price. I've looked around and you won't find a more cost-effective solution for an electric door opener.
So this is definitely worth a look if you think you might need something like this.

Tripp Lite INTERNET350U Internet Office 350VA Compact UPS (6 Outlets) Review

Tripp Lite INTERNET350U Internet Office 350VA Compact UPS (6 Outlets)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this to use with my Verizon FIOS router as the router is not protected from power issues. This unit is small and works well replacing a bulkier APC unit that failed on me. I suggest this for all home routers. I have a lot of experience with Battery Backups, both at home (I have them on every TV and computer) and previously as a IT Network Manager and would recommend this to everyone. The size and capacity are perfect for a router. Trust me on this one, getting one of these for a router will really save you headaches in the long run. I went with Tripp Lite as they have been around for a very long time, and to me, the lower priced APC units jut don't cut it anymore for me. AMAZON was the best deal for this compact ups when you consider shipping costs. I used Super Saving shipping and it shipped for free - the final price you pay is what matters. And I received it quite fast. No complaints. I bought it directly form AMAZON (as the seller) , it came fast, I installed it, and it is working fine.
