XLINK ITC-BT CELLULAR BLUETOOTH® GATEWAY (NOT CONNECTABLE TO HOME TELEPHONE SERVICE) Review

XLINK ITC-BT CELLULAR BLUETOOTH® GATEWAY (NOT CONNECTABLE TO HOME TELEPHONE SERVICE)
Average Reviews:

Welp the good is that it does everything and more that the description says. It functions like they say it will function. Actually it also doesn't work properly with Skype, but hey, they didn't claim it would.
When it's all working it really is a neat gizmo. Would be perfect alarm system backup or something where only touch tone was needed.
The big problem I have with this is EVERYONE complains about the audio quality they are getting. I don't know if it's the fact it's powering every phone in the house, or if it's a crappy prepaid cell phone, or a crappy XLink. I need to get another phone to be sure.
If the audio quality was acceptable, this thing would be the shiznit. Even without a reliably working Skype interface. But with some of the poorest audio quality going, maybe it's back to majic jack.

Xtreme Technologies Xlink BTTN Bluetooth Gateway (Black) Review

Xtreme Technologies Xlink BTTN Bluetooth Gateway (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Got this sucker working in minutes and then spent an hour running it through the paces. It has performed flawlessly. I was almost discouraged to buy this (or similar devices) as it was hard to tell exactly how they would interface with the home system. I thought I would add some notes on the tests I successfully ran (See below). All this was with one paired cell phone and a dect 6.0 cordless phone plugged in the back of xlink.
Ultimately, I've made about 20 calls in and out and I find the technology on par with Apple's mission - easy to use, intuitive and will utlimately become ubiquitous to the user. I have to believe, like DVRs, about everyone will have this technology in their house someday. I'll report back if I downgrade this in the future due to any problems.
Notes:
Only phones plugged directly to xlink will interface with it. If you want to go whole house, use an expandable cordless system with base plugged into the xlink. We have an expandable for our downstairs and other random phones elsewhere. This works nicely, actually. If you are on a cell call using the expandable, then you can make a concurrent land line call from one of the other random phones (but not from any of the expandable handsets).
To call out, you use your phone as normal. It defaults to land line or you can push 1 and flash to call out via cell instead. Caller id number it transmits will be aligned with your choice. If you are on landline and a call comes in via landline, you use call waiting as normal. If you are on landline and a call comes in via cell, you will hear a different beep and can flash over to that call. (Makes me wonder what happens if you started land line, went over to cell to get a call and another land line call starts to come it - will you hear it? Also, I realize I didn't test if you are on cell and another call via cell comes in can you flash over to it - but I imagine that will work too.)
If you are on cell, someone can use landline via a different phone (as long as it's not part of an expandable system whose base plugged to xlink).
If you are on landline on a phone not connected to xlink and someone wants to make a call out via cell on xlink, the x-link connected phone automatically defaults to landline (so people talking will hear someone pick up), then you quickly hit 1 and flash and you switch over to cell. So a minor irritation for someone already talking on land line.
Our answering machine, which is a separate device, is plugged in ahead of xlink in the chain and will pick up for landline and has no confusion with cell - cell calls go to cell voice mail if not picked up.
When you are receiving a call, you can tell what line it's coming in on. My cordless system doesn't support separate ring tones (and the instructions warn many won't), but if the cell is in hearing distance you will hear it ring too. Also, the xlink passes through caller id to the handset and if it's coming in via cell it displays the incoming number plus "xlink". If via land line, just the incoming number.
If you are on cell via xlink and a landline call comes in, other phones in the house will ring that aren't connected to xlink. You could pick up via call waiting, allow the answering machine to get it or someone on a random phone not plugged to xlink could pick it up normally too.

I bought this phone and returned it a week later. I have AT&T service and was un-able to get picture messages. I called Sony, AT&T and no one was able to help me. The features of the phone is great, but too compact for me. Texting was too time consuming, and placing a call was not that easy as well. I like the look and what it offered but it needs to be in a much larger body. Pictures were great, moving through the phone was fast, but just was un-happy that I paid so much for the phone and could not get picture messages, nor use the video calling feature. How funny, now AT&T carries this phone, I would have been able to use all the features now.

LG Lotus LX600 Phone, Black (Sprint) Review

LG Lotus LX600 Phone, Black (Sprint)

** UPDATE ** 09/30
Going on 9 months with the phone. Still enjoying it and happy with my decision. There is word of the Lotus 2 (2nd generation) phone coming out sometime in 2010. It's too early to tell how much will have changed from the Lotus 1, but so far word has it that the micro SDHC memory limit has been expanded to 32Gb and the outer screen will be touch sensitive. The touch screen functionality suggests that the inner screen will have this too, but that was not mentioned. In any case, expect the phone to debut sometime in the summer. If you really need a phone right now, you can't go wrong with the Lotus given the extremely attractive discounts going on.

REVIEW
======
The LG Lotus was introduced in the fall of 2008, to reasonable fanfare and press. But do you hear anything about the Lotus now? Not much, which I find strange because the LG Lotus is such an amazing phone. Maybe the surging popularity of touch screen phones overshadows it?
I bucked the touch screen trend and instead went with an LG Lotus. I had to switch from Verizon to Sprint in order to get it, because US based cellular carriers still impose a carrier lock on most phones and have significant pricing discounts when buying a phone with a plan. At first, I was worried about leaving "American's most reliable network" and sacrificing the "in network" minutes with a few of the people I know... but then I came to realize that Sprint has an excellent network as well. So far in my first few weeks of being on the Sprint network, I've noticed no performance loss.
But back to the phone. This is what attracted me to the Lotus:
1) EXCELLENT QWERTY KEYPAD. I don't like the lack of feedback from a touch screen phone; but you've no choice with it, because that's the main interface you're given (unless you do everything by voice command). On the other hand, the tactile sensation of the Lotus keypad is excellent. I have XL sized hands and have no trouble rapidly "double thumb" typing on the Lotus. I tried the Blackberry Curve and Treo--the Lotus keypad works with fewer typos.
2) SMALL FORM FACTOR. The iPhone, Storm, and Omnia touch screen style phones are all quite large and a bit weighty. They don't fit comfortably in your pocket, especially if you've got it in a case to avoid screen scratches. But the Lotus disappears in your pocket. Even in a shirt pocket, it is unobtrusive. When folded, the inner screen and keyboard are fully protected. Yet, when you open it up, the size is doubled and it is easy to hold. THIS is what cellular communications should be all about. I've tried out the Motorola RAZR and I'd say the Lotus is about the same thickness but easier to hold. Overall, the design of the Lotus is very unusual. When opened, it almost looks like a miniature laptop! :-)
3) SEMI-SMART PHONE. What does it take for a cellular phone to be called a Smart Phone? "There is no agreement in the industry about what a smartphone actually is and definitions have changed over time." The Lotus supports Java applications, can browse the web, download files, exchange e-mail (when connected, e-mail is pushed to the phone), and work as a GPS device. This certainly sounds smart to me. Aside from the default browser, you can download others (like the Opera Mini) and even use a GMail application instead of going through the HTML interface. I'm sure as time goes on, the list of compatible Java apps for the Lotus will increase.
4) PLAN VERSATILITY. With smart phones like the iPhone, Storm, and Omnia, you MUST have a data plan. With the Lotus, you can choose whether or not you want a data plan. Plus, on Sprint, you can do this change mid-stream on your contract without incurring costs or contract change penalties (the countdown to expiration remains unchanged). I find this an attractive advantage over the competition.
5) SCREEN RESOLUTION. The inner screen of the Lotus is 2.5" diagonal. It is a beautiful wide screen that looks like one you'd see on a quality digital camera. The resolution is SUPERB. Pictures appear razor sharp and in full accurate color. Even the external screen looks great, and you can choose not only a few different clock layouts but a different wallpaper from the internal screen.
6) MENU SYSTEM. The default "Carousel" style menu system is actually very nice. It is customizable and provides very easy access to popular functions of the phone. It is great for novices but a little annoying for the technically adept. However, you can dispense with it and go with the LG menu system. With the help of a Sprint store rep, you can get the default LG menu activated (or if you know your MSL number, you can do it yourself). I prefer the LG menu as it removes the Carousel clutter (if the menu would auto-hide, I'd like it more) so you can see your wallpaper image in all its glory. Plus, you go from 5 to 12 favorites (shortcuts), something I really appreciate. Not only that, but the left menu button becomes a quick access link to the Calendar/Scheduler, instead of it being hidden behind a carousel tile you have to hunt for. Supposedly, going with the LG menu saves you some battery life, too.
7) NO THEFT MAGNET. Large and glamorous PDA phones are a theft magnet, especially the coveted iPhone. Personally, I find the idea of constantly whipping out an expensive device increases the chance for damage (who here hasn't dropped a phone at least once on a hard surface?) and involuntary loss due to theft. The Lotus is nicely inconspicuous (especially the black version).
8) MUSIC PLAYBACK QUALITY. The built in music player is a little cumbersome at first, in that upon initial insertion of the SD card, it scans all of your music and creates an internal index. But once that index is created, it is quick and easy to play music selections by "All Songs", "Artists", "Genres", and "Albums". Plus you can create your own playlists, as well as use random or sequential play by Genre, Artist, and All Songs. A very nice attribute for the way the SD card is used is that you can subdivide your music by whatever folders you want--the Lotus scans the card and finds them, rather than requiring all songs to be in one folder. Sound quality is impressive, although for this small size the bass is lacking. But mids and highs are clear and accurate. I couldn't believe what I was able to hear... better than the iPod earbuds, that's for certain. Plus, it has a 2.5mm jack so you can plug in earbuds if you wish to listen privately. Bluetooth headsets are also supported.
9) EXCELLENT GPS SOFTWARE. I was about to buy a Garmin Nuvi 255w. But now, I don't have to. The Sprint GPS Navigator is excellent! It really works. Plus, it's full featured. You get horizon view and bird's eye view, turn-by-turn voice navigation with street names, easily stored favorites, and interfacing with Google maps. It also audibly informs you about traffic conditions. What more could you want?
10) DECENT CAMERA. A 2.0 megapixel camera sounds passe, when 3.2 and 5.0 cellphone cameras are available. Well, I don't know what firmware LG put in this phone, but this is the best 2.0 megapixel camera I've ever seen. I'd swear it was 3.0 megapixel. Photos are of very high quality. It works OK in low light if the subject remains still. There is NO flash, unfortunately. I wouldn't use this over a full fledged digital camera, but it makes for an excellent backup.
11) OBVIOUS CHARGING INDICATOR. On many phones, you need to look at the LCD screen to see a message that charging is complete or that the battery indicator is now on full. With the Lotus, the external music controls are lit up red when charging is taking place, but change to white once charging is finished--quite obvious to notice from a distance, which is very convenient.
12) MINI USB CONNECTOR. The mini USB connector works very well with this phone, sliding into place securely. And now there are vendors supplying car chargers with retractable cords that work with the Lotus. It's an excellent solution for convenient charging on the go with no cords to hassle with.
OTHERS - the phone has 5 alarm settings, one "quick alarm" and 4 main ones that you can set for whatever period you need (once, daily, weekly, monthly) and with whatever sound you want (default or downloaded). There is even a feature that allows you to record a phone call--not bad.So, those are the things I really like about the Lotus. But alas, no phone is perfect. Here is what I see needing improvement:
1) VOICE QUALITY. During calls, voices are projected through an internal speaker on the lid. Depending on the party reached, some calls sound a little flat and tinny on high volume. This is in contrast to the excellent voice quality I had on a Motorola E815. Now, it's not so bad that it is a deal breaker, but I wish it was a little better. If you're in a noisy room and crank up the volume, you'll be a bit disappointed. I tend to keep the volume set to about the mid-point. Using an ear set works well, as an alternative. In fact, at home I plug in a wired ear set and it works beautifully. I tuck the phone in my pocket and walk around hands free. The speakerphone quality is excellent, though.
2) BATTERY LIFE. If you leave your phone connected to the Internet most of the time, you'll probably need to recharge your phone daily. But if you shut off the Internet connection when not in use, battery life should be about average for standby and talk time. The Lotus is rated at 5.5 hours, but I'd say it's just about 3 hours. Most phone manufacturers exaggerate their talk time anyway. My last phone was...Read more›

Along the way, turn-by-turn directions will be announced in a clear voice and displayed on your phone. For example, Sprint Navigation will say, "Go 1.2 miles and turn right on Elm Street." As you approach the turn, you will hear, "Turn right on Elm Street." Sprint Navigation also provides proactive traffic alerts with one click re-routing. Phone Features The innovative LG Lotus flip phone is the recipient of the Red Dot Design Award--one of the largest and most renowned design competitions in the world--for its original form factor. This square flip phone measures just 3.3 x 2.4 x 0.7 inches and weighs 3.7 ounces, making it perfectly pocketable. It has an external 1.3-inch LCD screen (160 x 128 pixels, 65K colors), which displays incoming calls and provides current time/date, signal strength, and battery life. You can control music playback when the phone is closed with dedicated buttons right below the screen.
Flipping the cover open reveals a small, full QWERTY keyboard that's ideal for quick text messaging, e-mail or instant messaging. The interior also includes a five-way navigator, send/end keys, and soft navigation keys. This phone features Sprint's new One Click navigation interface, which places eight shortcut tiles along the bottom of the home screen. Instead of navigating through endless phone menus, you can put the things you use the most--features like call logs, texting, Web access and GPS navigation--right up front with instant information related to each feature. For example, when you scroll to text messaging, you'll see the number of new messages received and a single click takes take you to the newest messages. Here's how it works:
Add your favorite items to the carousel, which is a row of tiles along the bottom of your phone's home screen.
The carousel can hold up to 15 tiles, which you can add, remove and rearrange to suit your needs.
Highlight a tile to reveal its menu on your home screen.
Add up to 8 "bubbles"--at-a-glance items that display on your home screen, like the weather or your daily horoscope.
Browse and download new tiles from your phone's "Personalize Home Screen" tile. New tiles are available every two weeks.
Press your navigation left or right key to select a tile; up or down to select a bubble or menu item.
The "Home" tile always stays put, so you can easily get back to your default display.
The phone includes an 80 MB internal memory, which can be expanded via optional microSD memory cards up to 16 GB in size. The phonebook can store up to 600 contact entries, each with up to seven numbers, three e-mail addresses, a web URL, IM screen name, and a picture ID. Other features include a one-touch speakerphone, speed dial (98 entries plus one voice-mail default), and voice-activated dialing.
This phone provides the latest version of Bluetooth connectivity--version 2.1 + EDR (Enhanced Data Rate), which makes pairing with the included headset as well as other Bluetooth devices a snap. And with EDR, you'll get a faster connection than with the previous version 1.2, which makes transferring files and using the phone as a modem for your laptop hum along nicely. And with the embedded A2DP Bluetooth profile, you can stream your music to a pair of Bluetooth stereo headphones or other compatible devices. This phone also enables you to send contacts and calendar events, send pictures to a Bluetooth-enabled printer, and save up to 20 Bluetooth pairings
The 2-megapixel camera offers four resolution options for still images (1600 x 1200, 1280 x 960, 640 x 480, and 320 x 240 pixels), and it features up to a 15x digital zoom (depending on resolution setting; 1600 x 1200 does not support zoom), brightness and white balance controls, a self timer, and an in-phone image editor. You can print photos directly to compatible PictBridge printers via the included USB cable or via Bluetooth. You can also capture video clips in three resolutions (320x 240, 176 x 144, and 128 x 96 pixels), with video length of either up to 35 seconds (for sending via messaging or mail) or up to 1 hour (for saving to your memory card).
The digital music player supports MP3, AAC, AAC+, and MP4A files, and it allows you to play music in the background while you multitask in other applications on the phone. It also has an airplane mode that turns off cellular connectivity while allowing you to continue to play music. This phone is compatible with real-music ringtones, and you can also set voice memos as a ringtone. You can record voice memos up to 10 minutes in length. It comes with 33 unique ringtones and you can also set the phone to vibrate and silent modes.
Other features include:
Personalize your phone by downloading unique ringers and assigning them to numbers in your address book so you'll know who's calling by the sound of the ring or style of animation
Wireless Backup to manage contacts list in the event that the phone is lost, stolen or damaged
Download and play entertaining, interactive games that you'll want to play all the time
USB mass storage capabilities and charging via computer
Organizer tools: alarm clock, calculator, scheduler, document viewer, notepad, world clock, EZ tip calculator
Bluetooth version 2.1 with the following profiles: A2DP (stereo music streaming), AVRC (remote control), HFP (hands-free car kits), HSP (communication headsets), BPP (basic printing profile for text, e-mail), DUN (dial-up networking), FTP (file transfer), HID (support for mice or joysticks), OPP (object push for business cards, calendar items, and pictures), PBA (transfer contacts)
Hearing Aid Compatibility (HAC) rating of M4 for hearing aids operating in the acoustic mode

Vital Statistics The LG Lotus weighs 3.7 ounces and measures 3.3 x 2.4 x 0.7 inches. Its 900 mAh lithium-ion battery is rated at up to 5.5 hours of talk time. It runs on the CDMA 800/1900 frequencies as well as Sprint's EV-DO data network.

HTC DROID INCREDIBLE 2 Android Phone (Verizon Wireless) Review

HTC DROID INCREDIBLE 2 Android Phone (Verizon Wireless)

I love this phone to death. I constantly use it all day long and get about a day's charge out of the battery which is fine and above average for most Android phones. It's ease of use, responsive touch and input make this phone fantastic. Everything is fast and smooth, the CPU installed is a powerhouse and fast enough for most people. Don't care about the lack of 4G since my area won't have it for a year or two at least. I would recommend this phone to anyone who likes Android and HTC Sense.

Xtreme Technologies Xlink BT Bluetooth Gateway (Black) Review

Xtreme Technologies Xlink BT Bluetooth Gateway (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I heard about the Xlink on the Daily Giz Whiz podcast with Leo LaPorte and Dick DeBartolo ( www.gizwizbiz.com ) The concept intrigued me, and seemed very timely as by wife and I had been talking about disconnecting our home phone line. Note that I got the standard Xlink version. As I understand it, this version is meant to be used an a home phone lines THAT ARE NOT CONNECTED TO THE OUTSIDE PHONE SYSTEM. The "N" version is made for that purpose. We had just canceled our home phone service since it had been out for a week and the provider was unresponsive. I went out side to the telephone junction box and unplugged my home phone lines from the outside service lines. Not difficult, but many people may not know how to to this. The safe way is to get the N version, which is just a little bit more expensive.
I checked out the product on line, and based on generally positive reviews, ordered the product. To my amazement the product arrived the next day. And I only paid for regular 3- 5 day service. I had ordered early enough the previous day that it shipped the same day from a local warehouse. We're off to a good start. If this thing works "as advertised" this will be great.
The product set up was dummy proof. The first thing they want you to do is to upgrade the firmware. It is probably a good idea, but my unit turned out to be up to date. The procedure was simple none the less. A disk is in the box, and you just pop it into your Windows PC. I can't remember if they had a Mac version, and if not that might be a minor problem. However, as I mentioned, my unit arrived with the most recent firmware version.
Anyway, a small program installed and told me what to do. 1 plug in a standard USB cord to the unit and the PC. Now here is the first problem. The USB cable is not provided. It's a standard PC to Printer type, a wide flat plug for the pc end and a smaller square plug for the Xlink unit (again if you don't have it, just skip this step)
Then they have you plug in the power to the Xlink. The PC and the unit talk, and a dialog box pops up. Just follow the directions. It checks the website for the current firmware version, and allow you to customize a bunch of things. I found that the standard ring patterns and settings worked just fine.
The unit allows you to connect up to 3 bluetooth enabled phones, each with a distinctive ring pattern. A phone is paired with the unit by putting your phone in discovery mode (refer to you phone's manual on how to do that) and then press and hold one of the three blue buttons on the top of the xlink. It will flash for a while, and you phone will "see" the Xlink. You select the XLink on you phone (it may be called "unknown audio device" or something simiar) and then it asks you for the bluetooth password. A recent firmware upgrade changed the default password from "1234" to a much more common "0000" code. A few seconds later the units are paired, and the button that was flashing goes solid, indicating that the units are paired. The other two buttons show go dark. Now, when ever you get with in about 30' of the unit, you phone and the unit pair up automatically, and when you cell phone rings, you can answer it from any of your home phones. Big deal, you say. I always have my cell phone with me. Really? When do you charge it? Now no matter where you are, if you have a phone extension you can pic up you cell.
What is really cool is that you can connect up to 2 more bluetooth cell phones, and each one has a distinctive ring so you can tell who's phone is ringing. My phone ring with one long repeating ring while wife's rings with two shorter repeating rings (RRIINNGGG......RRIINNGG vs Ring, ring.......Ring, ring) A third will ring with 3 short rings.
When each of the paired phones is out of range the corresponding blue button on the XLink blinks. When the phone is in range, the blue button goes solid.
Note that when one or more of the cell phones are in range, when you pick up any extension, you will get a standard dial tone. You just dial like you normally would. It is no different that having POTS (plain old telepone service) If none of the cell phones are in range and you do not have home phone line service, the line is dead. This could be a problem if you and your spouse go out and the babysitter want to make a call and doesn't have a cell phone. Fat chance of that now a days, but that is a down side of no phone service. Also note that 911 might not work right, and your fire/burglar alarm won't notify the monitoring center if it went over your POTS. (New cell based fire/burglar alarms are available for this) If you don't disconnect you home phone line service this doesn't apply.
The down sides.
The range for static free calls is fairly short, about 10 feet. The unit will pair over about 30 feet, but the calls are a bit noisy. This works well for us since we have the Xlink unit in the center of our kitchen/family great room area, and this is where we store and charge our cell phones, well within the 10 feet range. I'm not sure what the real usable range is, since we don't stretch it too much.
If you don't have POTS, remember the follwing: It may not call 911 properly. Check with your local 911 service. Also remember about the fire/burglar alarm monitoring service. If one of the paired cell phones is not in range the phone lines don't work. Guests, baby-sitters, etc may be confused, esp in a emergency. Depending on you cell phone, if you take a cell call directly on the cell phone when it is paired with the Xlink, it may break the pairing and it may not immediatly reconnect, leaving the phone line "dead."
The unit is set up to use the first available paired cell phone when making a call from a phone extension. If you have more than one phone, the phone paired with button 1 will be used for outgoing calls. If phone one is not in range, it will pick the next available paired phone in range (assuming you have paired more than one) This could create problems with driving a phone over the monthly minute allotment unexpectedly. It is not a problems for us as we have a shared minute family plan, so it's all the same. There is a way to select which cell phone will be used to place out going calls, but we don't bother.
I'm going to assume that if you keep your POTS in place and have the compatible system, outgoing calls will always go out on the POTS, so only incoming calls will drive minutes, so there is really no difference from just answering your cell directly, except for being a lot more convenient.
Note that sometimes there is a bit of a delay when answering a cell call on a phone extension. I don't know if that's a problem with the XLink or just our cell service as we get a delay when answering direct now and then.
Overall I'm very satisfied and very impressed. Highly recommended.

Control Products FA-I-CCA Intermediate FreezeAlarm Review

Control Products FA-I-CCA Intermediate FreezeAlarm
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this unit because we live in the Northeast where it can get pretty cold. When we travel during the winter months, I like to have the security of knowing that the heating system in our home is working properly and we are not coming home to a disaster caused by frozen pipes. The unit is so simple to set up and maintain that you will probably not even read the well written instruction manual that the unit comes with. I just plugged in the power supply, installed a 9 volt battery and plugged the unit into an available phone wall jack. I then called the unit using my cell phone and completed the programming in less than 5 minutes. The intuitive voice menu guides you through the installation in an extremely clear manner. It works well with our existing answering machine. Well worth the price of $180 that I paid.

Cobra PhoneLynx Bluetooth Cell to Home Phone Connection System (BT 215) Review

Cobra PhoneLynx Bluetooth Cell to Home Phone Connection System (BT 215)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
What does this device do? It allows you to connect ordinary home phones (corded or cordless) thru bluetooth wireless technology to share your cellular phone service (same number for all phones).
I will try to make it simple for everyone.
I just got mine hooked up and love it! So I am excited to sing its praises. This device is more for a single person or a couple (living alone) who each have cell phone service. So instead of having 2 cell numbers and a third home number (landline) what this device does is it syncs both cell phone numbers to any ordinary home phone or phones (not phone service). I use a 3 handset phone system plugged into this device. So now, when I return home, I place my cell phone on the shelf by the door in its charger and I can roam around my house and not be worried that I will miss a cell phone call either because I can't hear the cell phone ring or because I can't find where I left it in time.
When a cell phone call is received by this device it shares that with the home phones, so all 4 now ring! And I can answer the call from any one of the home phone handsets around the house including my cell phone.
The best part of this device, is now I can also lift any of the home phones (handsets) and hear a regular dialtone (the BT215 generates this) and place a call going thru my cellular service. I don't worry about using up my cell minutes because with MetroPCS I now have unlimited anytime minutes for $50 a month.
Naturally when I leave home with my cell phone (good idea to have it charging near the door) the home phones will no longer ring or have outgoing service. Well, unless the BT215 is synced up with another persons cellular service also. It allows for two simultaneous bluetooth connections, if needed. Almost all modern cell phones have this bluetooth ability. That way the person who is left at home will still be able to receive and make calls on the home phones using their cellular service.
It is really very ingenious!
I had dropped my home phone service years ago, and kept missing calls because I would forget my cell phone on vibrate or just not hear it ring from the other room. Finally with this gadget, I can say for sure, I will no longer have that problem.
Another added benefit for me is if a guest picks up a phone, now they get a dial tone and can make a call without me having to explain that I have no home service. There is no longer a need for me to hand them my personal cell phone. Using this device makes it just as good as having a landline in my situation.
It isn't for everyone, especially big families but few products ever are.
This Cobra PhoneLynx device is perfect for those individuals wanting the convenience of using regular phones about the house but also having them share a single number with your cell phone. And only receive one bill each month as an added benefit. It simplifies things tremendously for me, I've been waiting for them to design this exact product ever since I dropped my home phone service years ago.
I give this product, my favorite gadget of the year award!
Now if you still want to maintain a landline also, they do make cordless phone systems now with bluetooth integration that allow you to also answer your cellular calls from these home phone systems BUT buying such a system would have been wasteful for me since I already owned a cordless home phone system and I didn't need the extra digital voice message recorder which those units provide since I get free voice mail service included with my cell phone service.
So this very affordable device does everything I was hoping for, and more! It has something called "clear call" technology which filters out static from the phone conversation so it makes talking even more enjoyable. Increased call quality was an unexpected extra from this product! Bravo Cobra!
I am very impressed by what you have created here, Thank You so much!
Anthony
