(More customer reviews)I purchased this unit for part of a whole-home audio system I was building for a friend, I usually use the Polk XM Tuner for these, but they already has a Sirius account, and it was cheaper to add this radio to it than to create a entire new XM account.
While it functioned well, there are a few things to look out for.
The included antenna's RF connector is very delicate, and I broke one simply by connecting an RG-6 F cable and turning the whole antenna instead of twisting the f-connector. Granted, its not how your supposed to do it, but it really seems like the connector was never intended to handle RG-6 cable, just the thinner center of RG-59
There is NO IR sensor or included remote with the unit at all. Since I was using a IR distro system it was ok, but during the intial bench testing of the system it made it difficult. The Unit was also VERY sensitive to IR noise, so getting channel macros to work was a bit of a chore. As a Stand alone unit, its a pretty basic device, Channel number selection and thats it. No Presets. Worked well as a slave tuner for an Onkyo sirius ready amp, but there are much cheaper options to do that. Rack mount options are nice, also comes with everything to run a 2nd tuner as well for more elaborate multi-zone systems.
The Biggest problem itself, however was Sirius. Due to the non-geostationary satelite setup they use, you practically need 360 degrees of open sky to assure you don't loose signal at random times as the satelites rotate around. XM Radio systems don't have this problem, point the antenna, if you get signal, you generally dont have to worry about it, since the two companies are "merged" anyways, and you can get everything on an XM unit with the Sirius package, I'd stick with the XM systems.
