The buttons are where you would expect and it is easy to program and, more importantly, to deal with early in the morning. I returned a Timex T600L because the snooze and off buttons were right beside each other...a missed meeting waiting to happen.

Motorola DROID 2 A955 Multimedia Docking Station Review

I bought it from Verizon Store at the time of DROID 2 purchase.
I just uploaded some photos and as you will see, my "cased" DROID 2 fits into this dock perfectly. However, I HAVE to say, I had a problem fitting my droid onto this dock until couple of hours ago since this dock is somewhat confusing as to how it should be set up.
When I opened the box, I saw only couple parts needed in order to put this dock together. I thought, "how confusing would it be to just build this simple dock!?" and ignored the User Guide. Well, several seconds later after I pulled the dock out of the box, I realized my DROID 2 while its case on will no way fit into this dock base.
I was disappointed and put the dock aside for couple of weeks as I was contemplating on returning it. It seemed a lot of work having have to remove my case every day just to charge (...even for its good looks). I carry my DROID 2 in my purse with other things and carrying it without its case seemed unwise decision (the screen is protected by a screen protector).
So finally I decided to return the dock, and was double checking to see whether I included all the equipment back into the box prior to bring it back to the store. Then I glanced the User Guide and noticed it says (in rather small font) "Use the insert unless you have Motorola protective case on your phone" along with the drawing that suggests there is actually an insert installed onto the dock that you need to remove it if you want to use Droid 2 with the case!
I looked the dock closely to see if there really was such a thing called "insert" that was removable.
Well... there was!
It was fitted onto the dock so perfectly without much gap (though removed fairly easily) and I didn't even notice there was one until then!
Anyhow, I uploaded several photos so I hope they help someone out there.
It is my fault that I didn't take a look at the Users Manual. However, I wish Motorola made the package graphic in a way that was more self-explanatory than how it is now, in addition to stating it on the User Guide (in a larger font).
However, it's a good news if Motorola actually heard and fixed the problem from the previous model (Original DROID multimedia station) by making it compatible with DROID 2 phone while its case on this time.
Just like previous model (and as you can see on my uploaded pictures), this dock WILL NOT WORK with DROID X.
This dock does what's supposed to do (I would say battery recharge takes as much time as you'd recharge it in a usual way).Pros:

I do recommend professional installation. If I had one thing to comment on is that I wish it came with a better sensor which detected glass breakage. You really have to set the sensor to a high setting to get a warning chirp when banging or leaning on the vehicle.

(More customer reviews)When I got the item I was pleased with the look, and the wall-mount installation looked great. BUT...the sound quality is not what I expected from a Jenson product. Not enough watts I guess, and the speakers have like NO base reflex. The sound is tinny, and when you turn it up it just gets more annoying. Also was disappointed that the remote control can only advance, pause, or rewind the songs on a CD. The remote can not adjust volume or do anything not related to CD playback. Also was disappointed that there is no way to have FM STATION PRE-SETS. The FM is a rotary dial for tuning. The station frequency does show up on the LED screen which is cool. Also...you would think the clock would stay lit up when the unit is off. it is, after all, an alarm clock as well. It doesn't stay lit. SO...feature-wise...this is a very disappointing product. Looks-wise...Great! You make the call. What do ya get for under 40 bucks? I should have spent more.

(More customer reviews)This cabinet gives ample room for most homes structured wiring needs. It is fairly sturdy and offers you a selection of external covers to mount, ranging from simple plates (with screws) to polycarbonate doors. The unit shipped with ample packaging from buy.com (unlike the steel door cover, beware!) so it arrived in one piece and all the necessary fasteners were included.
I would add some other components to the buy list, such as a duplex outlet, an external cover for it (because it will hang outside the enclosure), and the bevy of mounting hardware that channel vision offers.
What makes this product less than perfect is some of the channel vision design choices that I scratch my head over. For example, they include trim rings for the knockouts, but none of the trim rings allow you to attach standard 3/4" tube connectors to the cabinet. So you end up with very large holes all over the place, which I consider less than ideal. But other than that, I liked the enclosure.

(More customer reviews)I purchased this phone because I became tired of the terrible reception that 5.8GHz phones have provided. I live in a small single-story condo (800sq ft). Many times the 5.8GHz models wouldn't even work around the corner in the hallway. I have your normal drywall on wood stud construction, so nothing seriously blocking the signal. I bought a new Uniden 5.8GHz setup (since it was advertised to have extended range) and the reception was only slightly better. There was no way to take the phone into a bedroom or outside for a private conversation. 5.8GHz just doesn't penetrate drywall, wood and other building materials the same way lower frequencies do. 2.4GHz provides acceptable range but you are competing with everything else in that spectrum, including your microwave oven and wifi, the neighbor's baby monitor, etc. 900MHz phones work very well, and the digital models are quite secure, but you can't find them anymore. I found these DECT phones and they run in the 'unlicensed personal communications' 1.9GHz spectrum. There are far fewer signals in this band to crowd and interfere with your phone's signal, and they are to be used only for voice per the FCC-so there aren't other services like wireless networks or pagers in the same band. Since it's a lower frequency, the signal cuts though walls much better. This is the same technology that is used in commercial $500 cordless headsets that are used in call centers and offices.
With that, this phone has great clarity and signal. I have have conversations on the other side of my condo and they have the same voice fidelity as they do 10ft from the base. I would give it five stars, but there are a few little issues that bother me. First of all, although it says so on the box and in the description, there is NO ANSWERING MACHINE WITH THIS PHONE. I don't know why it would be described as having a Digital Answering System when all it does is integrate with your landline provider's voicemail system. If you have voicemail and it supports Message Waiting Indicator, the phone will blink to alert you to a waiting voicemail message. This works well, but I really wanted an answering machine since it allows me to screen my calls and allows for a few more seconds to pick up the phone as opposed to dropping everything and running to an available handset. I would return it simply because of this, but the price was right and the call quality has sold me on this phone, anyway. There is no 'hotkey' method of assigning phonebook entries, such as holding down the '1' key to dial your voicemail like a cell phone. You can add it to the address book, but it is nearly as many key presses to find it in the address book as it is just to dial the voicemail (*123 on Vonage).
Why oh why did they assign the normal cell-phone style pick-up key to the speakerphone? If you want to answer the phone and speak on the handset, you press the middle round button, not the button you would expect to press. This made calling my father-in-law entertaining when he was house-sitting for us. Speaking of which, the speakerphone is acceptable quality and there are some pleasant ringtones in there to choose from. If you place the remote charging base or the base station in a bedroom, be sure to put something in front of it or put a piece of tape over the eye-searing blue charging indicator on the base. It lights up the whole room. If you have a message waiting, it blinks and you may as well have a police cruiser parked outside your window.
I would recommend this phone since as a phone, it works very well. The little things are simply annoyances and don't affect the usability of the phone, itself.

Sony CPF-iP001 Cradle Audio System for iPODs Review

This Sony docking station makes the music coming out of my iPod sound fantastic. I tried (and returned to a local store) several other iPod docking stations, including a tin can of a product from iHome, and I couldn't be more pleased that I perservered until I got something I love. I am pleased that I can adjust the treble and bass with precision and that music sounds good at low and high volume and everything inbetween. This sounds every bit as good as a $400 shelf system I used to use for CDs, maybe better. The remote works great and the unit takes up very little space. I recommend it wholeheartedly.

Philips SE7451B/37 DECT 6.0 Cordless Phone with Single Handset and Digital Answering Machine Review

(More customer reviews)I am using an SE7451B as well as an SE7450B (bought later). The SE7450B is an additional handset with a charging base but no base station - it uses the same base station as the SE7451B for communication and therefore is just another phone on the same phone line. Registering the second handset with the base is easy and quick but you do have to read the manual because you have to follow the steps in the right sequence and you have to hold down buttons that would behave differently if you just pressed them. You can also buy the two handsets and one base together as a package in SE7452B, if you need two handsets right away.
For my home phone, I have a traditional line from AT&T, and for my home office I use Vonage because of the addtional features I can get for a low price (my favorite is the Simulring feature). I am using these Philips phones with the Vonage line.
Positives:
1. No interference. Dect 6.0 is great. I got rid of a set of Panasonic 2.4GHz and got this phone - and all interference with the WiFi and the wireless video baby monitor are gone.
2. HiDef really works. The sound quality is just simply amazing for a telephone - unlike any other phone I have ever used, you get a very broad dyanamic range of the human voice.
3. Works well with Vonage. I make a lot of international calls and with some other phones there would be a 2 second delay between when I spoke and when the person at the other end hears it. When I started using this phone, that delay seems to be gone - now it is as good as a domestic phone call (All this on Vonage).
4. The speaker phone is the best yet. It is comparable in quality to a polycom star-shaped speaker phones one uses in offices (except that you can't talk across a large room - you still need to be near the phone which is ok for a home office.
5. Mute works. I considered the Siemens S450/S455 and E450/E455 but the lack of a mute button turned me away. Yes, the hold works on the Siemens, and you can turn off the hold music, but the idea of a mute is so that you can still listen in on a call which the hold function does not do.
6. Ability to copy phone book entries from a SIM card is very handy - you don't have to key in hundreds of phone numbers. I usally keep all my contact information in outlook which syncs with my windows mobile smartphone. Then I use the copy to SIM feature of the phone to copy the numbers to the SIM. Then pop the SIM card into the base station. Make sure to read the instruction manual.
7. The two handsets and the base station are always in sync. For example, I just need to set the clock one one handset. Also, if I enter a phone number in the phonebook of one handset, it immediately shows in the other.
8. The intercom and the baby monitor features are very nice to have and they work well. With the intercom, you can actually forward a call from one handset to another.
9. I like having a battery life indicator. The signal strength is also a nice to have for those days when I venture out too far in the back yard.
10. I am going to repeat this because it is that good: the speaker phone is just outstanding!
Deltas:
1. This is a nitpicky thing, but since main color display turns off to save battery life, you can't tell if you are on mute or not (during a conference call for example) without pushing a button to turn on the display. It would have been nice to have the "missed call" led indicator do double duty as a mute indicator during a call, may be in a different color.
I will post an update if I find anything new.

(More customer reviews)Yes, this is what I was looking for, works as expected. Very clear image from any computer, I watch home in my IPAD, I can "move around home" even with 0 light, the infra red thing works great, and you can plug it anywhere if you have electricity close.
CONS. I have to wear headphones lo listen even that is to low, and the microphone could be better, the most anoying thing is, that when I unplug the unit from the electricity I have to set the hole configuratuon again, it means, go to the main computer in which the program is installed, find the IP, which changes each time the unit is unplugged, reset my Ipad configuration. So , what will happen if, the electricity runs away when Im not home, or accidentilly unplugged, I wont have this wonderful service. But, for the price, it worth.
I would give it 5 stars if my cons were solved, maybe the next generation will, I will wait, because I am going to get a couple more units

Most of them have analog radios, which means when I flip from the baseball game (am radio) to jazz (fm radio) I have to once again slowly turn the dial until I find the spot with the best reception. It is a joy to use presets.
Mine worked fine out of the box. Radio quality (sound) was good, suitable for a bedroom. Surprise, surprise, it came with the batteries (2 AAA) already installed for the battery back up.

(More customer reviews)I have gone through many brands of cordless phones in the last 10 years and this is the best.
Sound quality is crystal clear. I have many appliances and a wireless router but there is no static or other problems with the sound. (note: I have cable phone service) It is easy to change volume of phone calls during a call.
The phone handset has a clean, easy to use set of keys and menus. Many features are customizable, including the ring tones, which can be programed to a specific phone number. The talking caller ID is loud and clear. It is easy to access the voice mail from the handsets. Also nice is the shared phonebook so adding a number on one handset adds to all others. The intercom is nice to have and easy to use.
The base unit has a small footprint and easy to navigate buttons.
The "Drop & Splash Resistant" feature is not as strong as I had hoped. The plastic is not very forgiving. I believe that it will break if dropped on a hard tile floor. I have not yet tested the water resistant nature of the phone.
One odd complaint: there is no way to turn off the light on the handset when the phone is in the charger; it is pretty bright in a dark bedroom.
Overall, after using this phone for over a month, I am very pleased.

Suunto Vector Wrist-Top Computer Watch with Altimeter, Barometer, Compass, and Thermometer Review

(More customer reviews)I've owned the Suunto Vector for more than three years after purchasing it when I first became interested in adventure racing. While many top racers wear it, I would highly recommend it for the serious hiker, climber or backcountry skier for it's solid construction, design and versatility.
While I also wear this as my everyday watch, it's extra large size should be taken into consideration if that's something you have in mind.
There are a couple other brands available in this market segment, but the relatively low price and exceptional feature set are what continues to set this tool apart from the crowd.
Here's what you should know:
* Expect to replace the battery at least once a year. This is due to a number of reasons, one of which is the powerful backlight on the face that when activated can nearly illuminate the inside of a small tent at night. If you believe the manufacturer's warnings and want to play it safe, you may want to have this procedure performed by a professional (watch, not outdoor) shop. Suunto sells a battery pack that comes with a replacement seal and screw-in back, and this is definitely something to consider every other replacement opportunity, but you can get by with a lower-cost Duracell type 2430 3V lithium if you're on a budget.
* The altimeter is one of the strongest features, allowing you to quickly pinpoint your location on a topo map. However, plan to reset it regularly, especially after a plane ride or frequent and significant changes in altitude, or weather. This is rather easy as along as you have a confirmed location metric, but you have to remember to do it regularly to ensure the greatest accuracy. The 24-hour memory provides a total measurement of your ups and downs (ascents and descents) over that time period, a really cool record for runners, mountain bikers and skiers.
* The compass is one of the strongest in this class of devices, which to be sure isn't the greatest to begin with ... but even the serious orienteerer would be impressed. The ability to adjust for local declination is really nice.
* The barometer is good, but not great. However, if you want to be aware of potential weather changes, this will provide you with some peace of mind. Better to be safe than sorry (or worse) in this regard.
* The thermometer isn't accurate at all unless you take the watch off for 15-20 minutes or so to eliminate the warming effect of your skin/body temperature.
* Some of the controls and settings are not easy to comprehend or remember. I've never been able to figure out how to use the stopwatch, timer and lap features. If you're a swimmer or triathlete and this is important to you, look to the Timex Ironman standby.
* Waterproofing is rock solid. No worries.
* The soft-rubber watchband is comfortable to wear, but will deteriorate over time, even more rapidly in chlorine. Suunto offers a much lighter nylon/velcro alternative that I personally prefer.
Overall, I really like the Vector. But for a number of reasons already mentioned, would not feel comfortable giving it a perfect 5.0 score. But consider my 4.0 more like a 4.7 ... you can't go wrong here.

When the reference altitude is set correctly, the instrument also displays the present sea level pressure, which makes it easier to read and understand the barometric pressure at high altitudes.
And few things are more important when exploring unfamiliar territory than a compass. The Vector's electronic compass contributes by guiding you with cardinal or half- cardinal points and a North-South arrow. The compass can also be set to track a certain bearing, which helps you follow a chosen direction. Meanwhile, the unit's declination adjustment function allows you to correct the difference between true North and magnetic North.
In addition to the variety of outdoor functions, the Vector also displays normal time, with such add-ons as three daily alarms, a calendar programmed to the year 2089, a stopwatch with split-time measurement, and a countdown timer. The entire design is unified by an intuitive user interface and convenient, easy-to-access control buttons--a handy extra when hiking or climbing in tough conditions. Additional features include an electro-luminescent backlight, a user-replaceable battery, and an attractive black housing. In addition, the Vector is backed by a two-year warranty on parts and labor.

But I suggest you not buy it and wait until something better comes along. Sure, it beeps and the light flashes, but it does this ALL OVER THE PLACE. Either the CIA is monitoring my activities in every room of my house and where I work, or this thing can't discern between the myriad waves that are apparently traveling through the air everywhere. It beeps by light switches. It beeps by windows. It beeps near computers. It beeps near TVs. It beeps at solid walls. It beeps in the middle of rooms. If it detects and alerts you to everything, how can you tell if one of the alerts is actually a camera? Well, you can't.

Memorex Mi4004 iWake Clock Radio for iPod (White) Review

(More customer reviews)I recently bought this unit in red (it's also available in purple, blue, white, and black) at Target. It was on clearance for $39, more than 50% off the original price. At the sale price, it is well worth it. I have not experienced any technical malfunctions (such as the clock resetting for no reason). I suspect those were unusual cases experienced by a few buyers. Maybe Memorex quality control isn't so good. Nonetheless, my unit has worked as advertised.
The positives about this unit are:
*Excellent value if you get it on sale
*The sound is decent (not excellent by any means, but good enough if your main purpose is to use it as a clock radio)
*Looks nice and the size isn't too large or too small
*Easy to set time and alarms
*Has two alarms and takes two AAA batteries for emergency backup
*Comes with 5 adapters to fit all sorts of iPod devices. For older Nano (which I have), it's best to use the adapter that came with the Nano. But you don't necessarilly need to use a docking adaptor at all
*Radio tuner has scan function to find stations
*The alarm starts the volume level at 0 and progressively moves up one notch every 5 seconds. I don't know why a couple of people criticized this function by saying that the unit begins playing at level 5; mine does not. Maybe Memorex fixed this issue. In any case, I love this function. I don't like being jolted out of bed by music that's too loud. This unit gently escalates the volume until it's enough to wake you...I like that.
*Comes with a cute little remote control unit.
*Has a headphone jack and a line-in jack. I don't use these often but they come in handy once in awhile.
*Backlight has a dim and bright setting. The dim setting is fine for night use. The bright setting is very visible during the day (but too bright for night). Not sure who would think the dim setting is bright...again...maybe this was a problem with a previous model. Mine is fine.
*Has a daylight savings time switch. You can automatically move the time up 1 hour or back 1 hour with a single slide of the switch...no need to reset the clock entirely. A small thing but helpful.
The negatives are:
*No radio station presets. I don't find this to be a major issue because I only use this as an alarm clock and tend to leave the same station selected. However, being able to preset some radio stations would have been helpful.
* The sound, while okay, isn't what you would get from a Bose, Sony, or Altec Lansing. Then again, consider the price difference...

(More customer reviews)I've had radar detectors in the past, but this is easily the best designed detector I've owned. Having a small remote that can be placed anywhere is a huge advantage. Also, the voice and visual alerts are awesome, aesthetically pleasing, and unobtrusive. The small color screen is actually quite easy to read even in bright Florida daylight. I did not get the GPS portion yet, but I plan to add that very soon as it appears that our city added stoplight radars without making it widely publicly known.
