There is no alarm clock. It's just the speakers. It works well enough though. Just be aware that it is not as advertised.

iLuv i177 Alarm Clock Speaker System for iPod (White) Review

iLuv i177 Alarm Clock Speaker System for iPod (White)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
** Update June 11, 2009 **
I just wanted to correct an error below where I indicated that the iLuv wasn't properly charging my iPod. I don't know what was happening when I was trying it out but I really have had no problem across 2 different iPods with charging since I posted the review.
Still can't think of any use for the remote however... :)
** End Update **
I picked up the black iLuv iPod speaker system after doing considerable research online. These reviews are pretty helpful so I thought I'd add my 2 cents worth so that you can know what you're getting.
By and large the other reviews agree with my experience. The sound quality is very good for a small unit. You want to pick a playlist before you go to bed otherwise you get whatever is randomly selected from your library (I presume this is due to my election to shuffle all songs in my iPod settings).
I don't have much use for the remote but it's nice that it's included and it works well when I *do* play with it.
The unit has performed excellently since I purchased it two months ago but I'll make some observations:
- the rotating volume and tuning dials are apparently supposed to continue the click wheel paradigm from the iPod, but they do so mechanically and are often a little awkward to use.
- do NOT count on the unit properly charging your iPod. It *does* charge it somewhat so the iPod seems to me like it will run indefinitely while attached to the unit. But I've found that the iPod is not fully charged when I pull it off the iLuv. Fortunately, realizing this, I just make sure that I plug in my iPod when working out in my gym or I leave it attached to my computer until it *is* charged when I'm picking up my podcasts in the morning. This may just be my unit but it was a low point in my commute when my iPod battery ran out of steam that first time before I realized what was going on. I'm pretty rigorous about ensuring that it's charged before I leave the house.
- I agree with others that the minimum volume for alarms needs to be lower. It would also be nice if the volume ramp-up time could be adjusted. The unit comes on and fades up to the pre-selected volume pretty quickly.
- Finally the lights, that dimmest setting may seem dim in the middle of the day, but it's pretty overwhelming in an otherwise pitch-black room. A "Glow" setting or similar would be nice. As it is, when I want to know the time at night I hit the dimmer button to check the time, then hit it three more times to cycle the light through medium and high intensities and then to off again.
None of the above items are showstoppers for me, just 'nits that you can either live with or can't. Knowing what I know now, I would purchase the iLuv again. It has most of the features I need and the price is reasonable.

Satechi SP3-Box Docking Alarm Clock Radio Speaker for iPhone 4, iPod Touch 4G, iPod Nano 6G Review

Satechi SP3-Box Docking Alarm Clock Radio Speaker for iPhone 4, iPod Touch 4G, iPod Nano 6G
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I really like this product, it does everything I want from it with ease. It looks great, sounds pretty good, charges my iTouch and is fairly simple to set up (instructions always pretty important) and comes with a really nice looking remote too. The display is clear and easy to understand and I love the fact it is a radio as well as a docking station. The panel that displays the time has a backlight with 3 dimmer settings, dim, low-bright and brightest. So, if you cannot sleep in anything but complete darkness, you will love the dimmer option.
The volume can be as quiet or as loud as you like. I have it quiet and find it a really nice way of waking up. I am using it in my bedroom and my office and sound quality is always good.
It took me about 5 seconds to set the time, and another 5 seconds to set the alarm. That is just awesome! There are also 2 alarm settings, al1 and al2. I can set one alarm to my iPod and the other one to the radio. I haven't bothered to use the snooze yet. There are also annoying nature sounds you can set for the alarm. The one called water makes me pee.
The real surprise for this speaker is that I tried it with my brothers iPhone 3G, and we were able to charge the iPhone and listen to music. The remote is also working. But, there is a quirk. First, iPhone warns you that the accessory is not made to work with iPhone. The thing is it works in the 3G network, however when we switched it to edge network, it made weird noises. So, as long as we kept the iPhone in 3G network, the speakers worked perfectly.
I recommend it to pretty much anyone that wants to be woken up by their own style of music rather than whatever the radio has to offer. I will definitely buy another one for my brother this Christmas.

Bose® Wave® Music System with Multi-CD Changer -- Graphite Gray Review

Bose® Wave® Music System with Multi-CD Changer -- Graphite Gray
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
As a huge music lover, I have always wished for a Bose system to get that amazing sound in such a small box. Upon receiving it...I was not disappointed by the sound or size. However, I have discovered two limitations to the system that are highly disappointing. I bought the 3 disk cd changer along with my Bose system...so that I can listen to 4 CDs without having to change out CDS. With other multi-disc systems I've had...I've always been able to shuffle among disks so that you don't have to listen to just one artist...you can listen to a range of artists from the various disks. The Bose system does NOT allow you to shuffle among disks. It does have a shuffle feature but it only shuffles songs within one disk (which seems futile)...or you can shuffle and have one disk repeat over and over. I was pretty disappointed to see that a system that costs this much can't shuffle between disks.
The other disappointment that I knew when I bought it....is there are no buttons on the system....they are all on a remote control (which is easy to use)...but if you are prone to losing things...this might not be so great for you. I would have liked to have buttons AND a remote.

The acclaimed Wave music system still sets the standard for quality audio and ease of use among one-piece, table top stereos. No wonder so many people use it as their main home entertainment system. And you'll enjoy extra hours of uninterrupted CD music with the Wave music system multi-CD changer included in this package.
Simplicity by DesignThe Wave music system was engineered for easy enjoyment right out of the box. No setup required: just plug it in and you're ready to go. The FM/AM radio and CD player are built in. There's an auxiliary input for your MP3 or other portable player, and a headphone jack for keeping the music to yourself.
The system's sleek appearance is uninterrupted by buttons, with all controls on a handy, slim remote. The large display panel is brightly lit and easy to read, prominently displaying the artist, title and album names of your MP3 CDs.
The Wave music system with multi-CD changer package lets you enjoy extra hours of uninterrupted CD music. Simply slide one CD or MP3 CD into the slot on the front of the Wave music system, and up to three more into the add-on multi-CD changer. One remote controls all CD functions, plus FM/AM digital tuner, clock and alarm. A spare remote is also included.
The changer has the same small footprint as the Bose Wave music system. Together they stand less than seven inches tall and can fit almost anywhere, unlike most conventional bookshelf stereos. The CD changer also provides an additional connection for another audio source, such as an iPod or DVD player.
Unique Bose innovations account for this compact system's hearty sound. Proprietary waveguide speaker technology delivers performance well beyond the speakers' size. Two 26-inch folded waveguides are precisely tuned to amplify the output from speakers to reproduce lifelike sound from a small enclosure. You'll hear full-bodied sound, especially in lower registers, for more natural-sounding bass and percussion instruments.

JBL On Time 200P Loudspeaker iPod Dock and Clock Radio for iPhone (Black) Review

JBL On Time 200P Loudspeaker iPod Dock and Clock Radio for iPhone (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)

A week ago, my trustworthy old clock/radio/CD player finally died after over 10 years of faithful service. When I started looking for a replacement clock/radio, I realized that I didn't care about having a CD player any more, but it would be really useful if I could use it as a docking station/speaker to play music on my iPod or iPhone.
For me, the most frustrating obstacle that I ran into as I searched through various products and reviews was a lack of comprehensive and accurate information regarding compatibility with different iPod/iPhone models! I have a 3rd generation iPod nano and an iPhone 4, and I wanted a dock that would be compatible with either device. For several docking stations, I found that Amazon, the Apple store and the manufacturer's own website had 3 different versions of which iPods/iPhones the dock was supposedly compatible with - so which should I believe?
In the end, I was debating between the iHome iP90 and the JBL On Time 200P, and the compatibility issue ended up being the deciding factor. Several reviewers commented that the iHome iP90 only came with docking inserts for a few iPod/iPhone models (not including the iPhone 4), so they had to visit the iHome website to purchase an additional insert to fit the iPhone 4 that cost an extra $5.99 plus shipping. If I'm already paying for a pricy docking station, I want it to be compatible with my devices out of the box; I don't want to mess around with ordering and paying for extra inserts. Since the JBL On Time 200P was advertised on several websites as being compatible with all docking versions of iPod/iPhone, I decided to see for myself... And it was!
**PROS**
1. Compatibility!! Box contains multiple inserts/adaptors that make it compatible with ALL current docking versions of iPod/iPhone. I was able to plug in both my iPod nano 3rd gen and my iPhone 4 with no problems, and listen to music while they charged at the same time!
2. Great overall sound quality (see CONS section for exceptions).
3. Very sleek and stylish design.
4. Bright blue display makes the time clearly visible from across the room. (That said, I put my JBL On Time 200P in the kitchen - but if you want to use this device in the bedroom as an alarm clock, I'm not sure whether the display would be too bright...)
5. Simple and clear instruction manual - easy to program/use.
6. You can receive incoming calls while the iPhone is plugged into the docking station. Whatever you're listening to gets automatically muted, and the iPhone rings just like normal!
**CONS**
1. The lowest volume setting is not as quiet as I would like - I can still hear it clearly in the next room.
2. The sound quality gets a bit distorted if you turn the volume all the way up.
Overall conclusion: I'm very satisfied with the JBL On Time 200P and would definitely recommend it, especially if you've got multiple different iPod/iPhone models and want a device that's compatible with all of them.

This item was not constructed for shaky hands....I did not have a problem with puttin gin the battery. However I was surprise to find that the remote is 4 parts screwed together. I did not expect each piece to separate. I was kinda expecting to just remove the back from the remote and place the battery in its place and screw the back, back on. Nah, Not really that easy, but no problems and no complaints. I will buy it again. (o yeah...the battery that came with the remote was dead. so yeah i got to redo the whole battery replacing thing over. Beware on my battery volt reading meter says the GP brand of batteries.....are only about half charged. ( I have only tested the A27 & A23 sizes )

I was up and running with this in less the 30 minutes. The only reason it took that long was that I had to install an outlet in the electrical power box that my opener gets power from. Works great and keypad is very easy to use. I don't know how long the batteries will last since I've only had it a month.

I have checked out almost all the iPod/iTouch speakers on the market ever since I added the XM radio app to my iTouch. Since I was hoping to play XM fo rextended periods,I needed a speaker that would charge my second generation while it was playing. Here is a word of caution to anyone in the same situation: not all docking players will charge as they play, especially when it comes to the second generation. Before I bought the unit I actually called Yamaha and they assured me on two different occasions that their player would indeed charge as playing. And it does. Then you have to hear it to believe it. The sound is exceptional, probably better than units that are twice as expensive. The reputation of Yamaha as a maker of quality audio products shines through. Now would anyone want to buy a somewhat used Altec-Lansing?

Sony ICFCD3iP CD Clock Radio for iPod and iPhone (Silver) Review

Sony ICFCD3iP CD Clock Radio for iPod and iPhone (Silver)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought and returned the Sony ICF-C1IPMK2 a few weeks ago. You can find my review of it and my reasons for sending it back. In brief, audible distortion killed it for me. I subsequently ordered the ICFCD3iP with the expectation that sound output would be weaker.
I received the CD3iP today and I'm happy to say that it accomplishes its mission very well. It's not meant to be a Bose SoundDock, but it produces very well behaved sound. Let me see if I can explain it further...
First, there is absolutely no audible distortion. The sound is clean and well balanced; it has weight and is not as tinny as some would suggest. For a clock radio, the speaker does a remarkably good job. The volume goes up to level 20, which is loud enough for a single room but not loud enough to damage your ears. Realize that it's a small speaker and keep your expectations reasonable. Even at maximum volume there is no distortion and the sound is tightly controlled.
The FM tuner does a superb job of producing a clean and clear output with no listener fatigue. Small amounts of hiss or noise can quickly lead to fatigue, so it's particularly gratifying to have an FM radio to which I can listen at length. NPR (local 88.5) comes through very nicely.
The alarm and clock are thoughtfully designed. Large numbers are easy to read, the display has 3 brightness levels, and the dual alarms can be set for weekday, weekend, and wake-to-radio, wake-to-iPod, wake-to-CD, or wake-to-buzzer.
Alarm and radio presets are backed up by an onboard battery, so no flashing 12:00 after a power outage.
iPod/iPhone integration is the same as on the ICF-C1IPMK2. The remote lets you navigate your iPod.
Overall I'm quite happy with the design and performance of the CD3iP. It replaces a 12 year old alarm clock without taking any more space while adding CD, Radio, and iPod playback.

Didn't expect a whole lot for the money but I didn't want to install a full-fledged alarm system, just something that blinked and would scare off the majority of the glove-box looters and such. Combined with 'The Club' it makes for a good system. Easy to install, easy to set up, LOUD as all get-out! I'll buy a few for travel and the other car. Give it a try, what have you got to lose, $14?

Air pressure sensor circuitryThe RA-50 uses advanced logic CMOS microchip technology. This microsensor circuitry senses sudden changes in air pressure, so that changes caused by the slightest opening of a door or window will trigger the solid state alarm. But as sensitive as the RA-50 is to changes in air pressure, it's insensitive to the vibrations and external movements that cause false alarms on most other security systems. Self-regulating temperature compensation and a high signal to-noise ratio maximizes the alarm's effectiveness. When the siren goes off, intruders stay outUnlike other systems that use external alarms that frighten the neighbors, the RA-50 uses and internal 110 db siren that frightens the intruder. So piercing is the siren the specially designed compact Piezo sounder that the intruder will be forced to make a hasty exit. So loud, in fact, that hearing damage may result from improper use.Nothing to install but a batteryThere is no alarm system more effective or easier to use than the RA-50. Unlike complicated security systems that require expensive installations, the RA-50 takes virtually no installation at all. This self-powered, completely wireless unit operates on a single 9 volt alkaline battery. Just put it anywhere in your car and push the button. The RA-50 senses the environment and sensitizes itself to the air pressure within the vehicle, and your car and belongings are protected.Take it anywhereThe technology that makes the RA-50 so effective in your car is what also makes this completely portable system so effective in securing boat cabins, small offices, RVs and even hotel rooms. Small and lightweight, you can carry the Road Alert Portable Car Alarm ay place that needs securing. So small, yet so effectiveSo if security is of the utmost importance to you, don't think big and expensive, think small and effective. The Road Alert RA-50. Jensen JiPS-250i Docking Station for iPad, iPod, and iPhone (Black) Review

Jensen JiPS-250i Docking Station for iPad, iPod, and iPhone (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
They almost got it right. Once docked it will start playing your music immediately, whether you'll like it doing so is up to you. Sounded pretty good, much better than the built in iPad sound for sure.
It holds the iPad in portrait or landscape mode with an almost endless variety of viewing angles which I really liked, some docks seem to be only able to do portrait mode.
The bad, once docked if I tried to play any video it would say that is was connected to a TV when it wasn't, no cable was connected. I used a paperclip to reset the unit and then videos played. Until I undocked and docked again, then same thing and this may be a deal breaker. Not sure if this is a defective unit or they all suffer from the same problem.
The app that it downloads is awful, an iPhone/iPod app for a device that seems to be primarily for the iPad is an odd choice to say the least. You can connect those devices sure but look at this thing, it is designed for the iPad, at least have a choice of a higher resolution iPad app. Since the app is how you interact with this device it made it seem "cheap".
So I would say with just a little more work and minimal investment they could make this a 5 star device, I would recommend they do so.
As some have noted yes I understand the way the video was supposed to work by pushing the button on the remote, unfortunately with this unit that didn't work.
Also if you got a unit that works great I am happy for you, this one didn't and I could only base my review on the unit I bought.

Sharper Image EC-P115 Portable Speaker Docking System Review

Sharper Image EC-P115 Portable Speaker Docking System
Average Reviews:

Apparently, the below reviews are related to a Sharper Image Humidifier unit and not this speaker unit. There are no "tanks" or "cool mist settings" on this speaker-dock. Hopefully Amazon will straighten this out. As for this speaker-dock unit.... I find it to be quite adequate overall, however a little light in the bass area. I would have also liked to have seen a remote control. I will verify for anyone having a 3Gs iPhone, this unit DOES work with it and does not give you that annoying "this is not compatible, do you want to switch to airplane mode" message. Plays and charges just fine. A decent unit all in all.

Jensen JRC-208 AM/FA Alarm Clock Radio with 1.8-Inch Green LED Display (Black) Review

Jensen JRC-208 AM/FA Alarm Clock Radio with 1.8-Inch Green LED Display (Black)

The radios looked good in the advertisement but found them to be very poor quality. I purchased 2 of these radios to put in guest bedrooms and neither radio worked properly. There was no clear reception to any radio station FM or AM, and the tuning knobs didn't work properly. Don't waste even a dollar on these!

Coby IR850 Wireless Internet Radio System (Black) Review

Coby IR850 Wireless Internet Radio System (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this radio to replace the IR825 which had good sound but I found it too hard for anyone to operate using just the buttons on top and a 2 line display. This radio also has only buttons on top and no knobs but is easy to use and the big display shows everything you need to see. The buttons are not lighted though and are sometimes difficult to find in the dark. It also has a remote.
I also have 2 other internet radios, an IR808 similar to the Kaito IR-168 and an RCA/AR RIR205 from Audiovox to compare this to. While the RCA uses Vtuner for it's portal and the IR-168 uses IR168's own site this radio uses the Frontier Silicon wifi radio portal but it's list of stations seems to be based on Vtuner. Frontier Silicon, in the U.K., designed the radio's processor module, wrote it's firmware and also provides the website for radio makers and owners to use. When I first opened the box and got the radio out and plugged it in, it connected to wifi and got a station right away which was a surprise since I had a lot of trouble getting the first 2 other radios to work at all. I did have to update my wifi router from an old 802.11B to a D-Link DI624 G model a while back though which is a big part of why it worked right out of the box.
The radio has two fairly large speakers for good sound and is bigger than it looks in the photos so it might not fit on some small shelves or night stands.
The wifi antenna is just a small J shaped etching on one end of the processor board inside the radio but seems to receive OK. It could be replaced with a high gain external antenna for better reception if necessary. The radio was made by Hip Shing Elect. Co., model IR68N or iCanal withoug the iPod dock. They also make Grace radios. Coby doesn't really make anything, they buy items from other manufacturers with the Coby name put on them to resell. I also have a Coby HD AM/FM radio which I like but it's actually a Mondo Revo. One potential drawback to this radio design is that everything is done on the Frontier Silicon web site, even storing Favorites. This means the radio won't work at all if their web site is down. The RCA has a similar design that relies on the RCA/AR web site but some others such as the IR-168 have their own built-in web server that you can browse to with your PC and store Favorite stations directly into the radio's memory.
While other radios tend to have an SD memory slot or USB jack for playing your own music files this radio has neither. They claim it can stream audio from a PC using uPnP with Windows Media Player 11 and the manual even shows how to setup WMP 11 to do streaming, something I've never found explained adequately in other manuals. Other radios such as the IR-168 claim they can do streaming using uPnP too but they don't tell much about how to do it. I was only able to get that to work in Windows 7 though and not in XP Pro. However, most security experts say to never use uPnP at all and to always keep it disabled because it allows hackers access to your files. If you aren't worried about hackers, have Windows 7 or can get XP to stream and have a lot of music, podcasts or audio books on your PC you want to play then this feature would be handy. There is also a way to get iTunes and VLC media player to stream over wifi to the radio that is described in the Reciva Forum but when I tried that my router kept crashing. One advantage this radio has is the ability to receive KFI and other Clear Channel stations that are difficult for other internet radios to get. KFI wouldn't play if I used the radio to go to Region and browse to LA, Calif. then choose the station however. That just produces a Network Error but if you go on the F/S web site and choose the station and add it as a Favorite then it plays but tends to work intermittantly sometimes since the KFI streaming is not always reliable.
The build-in FM tuner is more sensitive than I expected and even has RDS, a feature normally found in car radios, to show the station's call letters and the title and artist of the song that's playing on the screen, something that's not mentioned in the manual or on the web site. There is no connection for an external antenna though, just a piece of wire sticking out the back. The FM tuner doesn't get HD stations but the radio has a feature listed under Internet Radio called HDi (also not mentioned in the manual) that has a list of HD2 channels from various stations around the USA that are on the internet. It doesn't get all of them however.
This radio has one major problem, the LEDs that provide the display backlight tend to burn out early. They aren't too hard to replace if you are handy and like to tinker though.
Pros
1. Six line display is big and easy to see.
2. Has Help built-in but it's not really much use.
3. FM radio plays better than expected and is more sensitive than other radios but the antenna is just a piece of wire hanging out the back.
4. Can receive KFI 640AM but sometimes it works and sometimes you get a network error.
5. Faster than the others to connect to the wifi router and tune in stations.
6. Remembers it's internet settings and it's wifi connection when power is off in spite of not having any backup batteries.
7. Besides internet radio and FM there is also an option to play podcasts and streams from a PC.
8. Good sound from 2 large stereo speakers and 30 Watt amp.
9. 20 Presets for Favorite stations.
10. Remote control.
Cons
1. Backlight LEDs tend to burn out early. Directions for replacing them can be found on the Google Group called Frontier Silicon Based Internet Radios.
2, No Preset buttons are on the radio but they do show up on the display where they are easy to see and are on the remote.
3. Favorites are hard to add, you have to browse through a long list on the web site to find and select each one and you can only add one at a time but you can add the station currently playing as a Preset
4. Built in wifi antenna not as sensitive as some others that are external.
5. No SD memory slot or USB connection for playing your music files from flash memory or USB thumbdrives.
6. No Ethernet jack, wifi only.
7. Can only play MP3, WMA and RealAudio file types. At least those are the only types listed on the web site when you add a station but that covers most radio stations and streaming podcasts. Other radios can also play AAC, WAV and AIFF. The Frontier Silicon prototype this radio is based on can play AAC and the new Grace GDI-IRD4000 is claimed to supported: Real Audio, WMA, MP3, AAC, AAC+, FLAC (lossless), WAV (lossless), AU, AIFF, and OGG Vorbis so this one probably just needs a firmware update to play additional formats.
11. There was no user forum available for support like other radios have so I created one on Google Groups called Frontier Silicon Based Internet Radios.

Memorex MA4203BK Clock Radio with Flip Down Dock for iPod and iPhone Review

Memorex MA4203BK Clock Radio with Flip Down Dock for iPod and iPhone

Small in size but loud enough to wake me at 4am! This clock has a couple of cool features, you can set the days that you want the alarm to go off and it auomatically sets the time by syncing with iPhone. The led lights are bright enough so that you can see the time but they don't brighten up your bedroom. The flip down charging station is slick too.
